Newest Student Blogger
Our newest student blogger was posting today, check it out below:
Reading Buddies
This year one of our ninth age reading groups is pairing with a seventh age group to do "reading buddies" twice a month during reading class. These reading buddies met for the first time yesterday and had a tremendous time. The 9th agers were tremendous teachers and really worked to help the seventh agers understand vocabulary and work together to create a picture to demonstrate comprehension.

Rounding Comes to Life!
Today we worked more on rounding. To make the concept come alive we created a life-size number line.
First a student would write a number to be rounded (three or four digits long)
Then another student would select the place to which we would round, and underline it (tens, hundreds, thousands). This same student would also draw an arrow to the place which dictates the "up or down" rounding of the number.

A student would write our "rounded down" number and our "rounded up" number on the two end poly spots. Our final student would walk our number up the number line to find its place.

Our First Student "Caught"
Calvert teachers are on the look-out for students completing "good deeds". Each week 10 different teachers hand out bracelets to reward lower school students for exceptionally good actions. One of our classmates was "caught doing a good deed" yesterday and received one of the bracelets! We are very proud of him!
The Boss of the Plains
Our reading groups are working on a variety of short stories. One such story is the true tale of John Stetson, inventor of the famous "cowboy hat". After reading the story, we created advertisements, emphasizing all of the benefits of this unique hat!
