We had our most recent student "caught" doing a good deed. While walking from snack, he noticed a classmate with two untied shoes, giving up his spot in line, our good-deed-doer quickly came to his friend's rescue and helped with his shoes. Great job!!

Newest Student Blogger
Our newest student blogger posted below:
This week we went to an all school asembly and we started flag football too. In French this week we learned how to translate French sentences into English. Also in science we learned about life cycles. After that, in history, we took a history test, it wasn't too tough!

Newest Student Blogger
Our newest student post was created today! Check it out below:
Today we have a hopper and cricket game! Also, today we got an extra recess after we all got our practice spelling test right yesterday.
9th Agers and Their Green Thumbs
We met again on the blacktop to plant more seedlings this week. Our students worked hard to plant the correct number of seeds in each section, carefully cover then with dirt and water before properly labeling the entire planter. We have become quite a group of gardeners!
Reading Buddies Meet Again!
Our 7th age and 9th age reading buddies met again this week. We worked together on a new story, "Mr. C's Dinner". With our partner, we practiced our prediction skills and learned several new sight words. We also extended the story by creating our own invitations, just like those created by Mr. C. We will not be hosting a dinner party; but instead, a halloween party during our next reading buddy time! We also created invitations to invite some of our other friends from Calvert.

Practicing Properties
We are finishing with our addition properties in class this week and students created graphic organizers to help us remember definitions, examples, tips (be sure to ask your son or daughter which property tip involves a zero-shaped mirror...) and non-examples. Afterwards we played the "property game" which had us standing, sitting on the floor or sitting on our desks, based on the property shown in a problem. We have really mastered these properties! Great work!
We also had a special visitor this week as Dr. Martire stopped in for his 14th classroom visit of the year. Check out his blog for details!
Newest Student "Caught"
One of our 9-1 students was "caught" this week by Dr. Trusty! "Caught doing a good deed", that is. We are very proud of his decision to stop his morning routine to help a fellow student after that student's backpack overturned. What a kind gesture! Congrats!

The Great Pyramid
We have just finished our Great Pyramid composition and are working our way through Egypt in history. Each boy was given a piece of the great pyramid, collected in 2004. How exciting!
Making Papyrus
We started our papyrus project on Friday. Our long and short strips will soak over the weekend and we will begin the drying process on Monday!

"I like the part when we played soccer, we won 4 to 1! We're making papyrus and we got a part from the great pyramid."

Our group worked on creating our own pyramids. We built one pyramind each, made easier by the use of marshmallows instead of 5,000 pound stone! Check out our project below:
We had such a fantastic time planting for Real Food Farms on Tuesday. After being rained-out on Monday, the boys were thrilled to be outside and working in the dirt. We got all of the planting completed and eagerly await the next step in our community service project next week. Stay tuned for more updates!
