Learning our 9's!

We have been focusing on our nine facts in class and just HAD to spend some time dancing to our "Nine" song. It does a great job explaining our favorite "nine trick". Enjoy!

Science Test Vocabulary Quizlet

For those boys interested in reviewing our science information with quizlet, feel free to use the link below. It will take you to the terms and definitions, as well as a few other items I have added from the review sheet. Happy studying!

Our Reading Class

Our favorite characters in The Egypt Game have just selected Egyptian names and symbols for themselves, so we did the same! After doing some research, we selected Egyptian gods and goddesses and created Egyptian symbol bookmarks, based on each of our chosen god. The students did a fantastic job!

Enjoying Purple Friday

The usual Calvert black and gold were replaced by purple today as we geared up for Sunday's big match up.
The boys headed to the auditorium for a surprise all-school assembly...
Who would have thought the Raven's marching band, cheerleaders and Poe would be the next to arrive?

Purple Friday

We had an incredible "purple Friday" today. Not only was the entire school decked out in their Ravens gear, but we had some very special visitors! Many thanks to all those who helped make today an event to remember!

History Review for 1/13 Test

To help the boys review for history, I have created virtual flashcards on "Quizlet". The boys will be using the flashcards and games on Thursday during our technology time, but feel free to review at home. The boys know the steps, but the directions are below, just in case.
Head to www.quizlet.com
Enter username: 9-1
Enter password: calvert
Click "My Dashboard" (second option from the left)
Click "History 24-28"
They can review flashcards, learn, test, or play "scatter" ("space race" is a bit challenging with longer terms).
Enjoy!

Student Blogger

Our newest student blogger posted below:

Over winter break, I went to the Eastern Shore until Christmas Eve when I came back and went to the Christmas Pageant. Then, after Christmas, I went back to the Eastern Shore and came back the day after New Years' Day.

Math Games in Action

Today we played an exciting math game in class. This game is easy to reproduce at home and is sure to engage your student in review his or her math facts.
We have cards labeled 0-5 as these are the facts we have covered so far. Each student begins with 3 sets of these cards (18 cards each). The two students each flip over a card similtaneously, revealing the multiplication challenge. For example, if a "4" and a "2" are flipped, the student to first call "8" wins both cards. The student who wins all of the cards wins the game.

Math Homework for 1/3-1/7

Your son or daughter should be bringing home the notecards we make in class, please continue to encourage reviewing at home!

Reading Group Glogs

We have recently begun to read The Egypt Game in reading class. The students have demonstrated an impressive understanding of the characters as they created "glogs" with a partner about each character, and then presented them to the entire class. The glogs are essentially virtual posterboards and the students will continue to update their glogs as we advance through the book. Check out the pictures of the students hard at work!
