We have read our first few chapters of The Witches in reading class, and we have just learned how to identify a witch! The students showed their comprehension by selecting from several activities: writing about the "witchy" characteristics, drawing and comparing a regular woman and a witch, drawing and labeling a witch, or creating a product to sell to a witch based on one of her characteristics. The students displayed strong comprehension while showing their creative sides.

Geography Continent Quest
Working together, the boys selected and researched their favorite continent using resource maps, topographical maps, population maps, and factual paragraphs.
Math Arrays for Multiplication
We worked this week with dividing challenging facts into arrays to explore different strategies and to demonstrate how the facts are related. The students began by drawing an array which demonstrated 8x6 and then added to the array to demonstrate 12x6 (adding 4 rows of 6).
The students were able to see that the product of 12x6 could be found by finding the sum of 8x6 (our first picture) + 4x6 (what we added on)! Continuing to understand the relationships between facts will help us as we move onto greater factors next week.

Reading Webquest
Reading students began their webquest about Ellis Island, working in partners to research and identify important information. They will continue to learn more about Ellis Island and immigration through the information on the site as well as primary sources such as photographs and audio recordings. Following their research, we will read "A Very Important Day" together.
Reading Interviews
Our reading group spent time interviewing one another pretending to be the main character from our short story, Heat Wave. The students did a wonderful job demonstrating their reading comprehension and getting into their roles.
Multiplication Scavenger Hunt
The students worked together to locate numbers around the school to photograph and import into educreations to create multiplication number sentences.

Grammar Review
We quickly reviewed subjects and predicates today. Each student received part of a sentence and had to find the classmate who held either the missing subject or predicate to make a logical sentence.
